Hats, hats, hats…

I normally like blogging about a new make before I risk taking it out and about, but I’ve worn my new cashmerino hat pretty much every time I’ve left the house for the last couple of weeks. I’m feeling particularly camera shy at the moment, so there are no pictures of my wearing it, but it’s too pretty not to show off.

cashmerino hatIt’s the same pattern that I used for my mum’s Christmas present, but the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran yarn shows of the stitch pattern a lot more clearly than the uber-fluffy Drops Air that I used last time. The pattern is free on Ravelry, and it’s called Bellezza by Maria Parrish.

Bellezza hat close upI used two 50 g balls of cashmerino, but still had most of the second ball left over.It was the first time I’d used this yarn, and it was an absolute dream to work with. Best of all, it doesn’t make me itch! I’m not allergic to wool, I just have insanely sensitive skin, so even fibres that feel soft to my fingertips will prickle and itch next to my face or neck. I once made the most beautiful striped beret from some seemingly soft Rowan wool only to find I couldn’t bear it touching my forehead, and that put me off making myself hats for years. Fortunately cashmerino seems to be the answer!cashmerino hat profile

I hadn’t knitted a hat in years, but now I can’t seem to stop knitting them! I made two man-size beanies, coming up with my own cobbled together pattern. The teal and grey one with a bobble is for a friend, and Mr BAM has claimed the khaki and grey one.beaniesI think I might work out a slightly smaller size too, although this size does comfortably fit my normal sized head almost as well as Mr BAM’s giant one! They knit up quickly in chunky yarn (I used Stylecraft Special Chunky in Khaki and Teal, and Stylecraft Life Chunky Prints in Dapple Grey) on 6 mm needles.

I meant to take some pics of my other WIPs, but that will have to wait because I’m losing the daylight again. 😦

Oh well, I’m off to mum and dad’s house for my dad’s birthday tea. I want to get there in plenty of time to nab a spot by the fire! πŸ™‚

I really love reading your blog, and I always find it really inspiring, so I nominated you for a Liebster Award. I don’t know if you’ve already taken part, but if not I’d love it if you checked out my post and answered the questions I’ve asked! πŸ™‚

Sorry it’s taken a while for me to get back to you! Thank you for the nomination. I’m so glad you enjoy my blog, but although I have been nominated for a Liebster (and I think it’s a lovely idea) I don’t really take part because I’m a lazy control freak! I wouldn’t know how to pick nominees from all the lovely blogs I read and sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle to get all the things I really want to blog about done already! So thank you, I do appreciate it and maybe I could compromise with a few Q and A s on my about page? πŸ™‚
