New pattern: Rah Rah Boombah baby hat

rah rah boombah 5

I love hats. I love making them and I love wearing them, but unfortunately I am naturally very hot-blooded, so I hardly ever get cold enough to wear them! One of the upsides of being a new mum who knits and crochets is the universal insistence that baby should be wearing a hat every time she leaves the house. Baby BAM already has half a dozen hats I’ve made for her, but they are never quite what I want: too scratchy, too big, too small, too easy for her to wriggle out of just enough for her ears to get cold… the list goes on. Crafty Christening

Baby BAM in shrugIt feels as though I have no time to spend on making things recently, and yet I have a ton of stuff to write about. First of all here’s my version of the Entrechat cardigan for BB.

Her original one was made by my very talented sister-in-law Paula, who took a chance on making the 12 months size in DK instead of worsted. It fitted so well I was a bit nervous about making the 6 months size

Cuddlesome cardigan for Baby BAM

Sadly I didn’t manage to make any of BB’s Christmas presents this year. I had hoped to finish the stripey cardigan I was making in time, but we were just into the New Year by the time it was done. Still, on the plus side, it did mean that I had time to do a little photoshoot with one happy and cooperative baby girl!20160105_110641This is the third time I’ve used Louise Tilbrook’s wonderful Fuss Free Baby Cardigan pattern (which is free to download from Ravelry), and this time I added an extra few stitches to the larger size to accommodate BB’s every expanding portly little tum! I used Drops Cotton Merino DK, which feels gorgeous. I hope it washes well! Continue reading

Super Simple Crocheted Christmas Stocking

KODAK Digital Still Camera

Honestly, I thought it was going to be months and months before I would find the time to write any new patterns. However, it is my beautiful baby girl’s first Christmas and I want her to have a handmade stocking; so after a cursory search through Ravelry I decided to just come up with my own crochet pattern.

Actually I ended up with two patterns Continue reading

My best ever make!

rainbow baby blanketThis will possibly be a very short post as I don’t know how long I have to write it! I am very pleased to announce that Baby BAM has arrived! I won’t trouble you with all the gory details, but I wound up having an emergency c section – after twelve hours of labour – and I am now the proud mummy of a beautiful 8 lb 2 baby girl! I did very much enjoy the gas and air, shocking the poor midwifes with some very colourful language, and Mr BAM was by my side throughout, and is already proving to be a wonderful dad. He’s a natural, and a complete hit with Baby BAM, who adores him.

Lazy daisy cardigan and rainbow baby hat

View from the windowEven on a grey, rainy day, I love the view out of the kitchen window in our new flat. Of course, the splash of colour provided by my orchids (the only plants I’ve ever managed to keep alive and flowering) and the beautiful sunflowers my mum bought me definitely help! The flat is slowly shaping up nicely, and just in time as our little one is due on monday.

At my latest check up I was told that the baby is on track to be at least 8 lbs, maybe more like 9 lbs, and given the size of my bump it does seem likely! So naturally I panicked that none of the things I’d made her would fit, and started knitting some in a larger size. Continue reading

Finally! Finished filet crochet stole.

Centre filet crochet heartWow, it’s been a really long time since my last post, hasn’t it? In my defence, I haven’t had much time or energy for, well, anything really! We moved house three weeks ago and the new place has needed a lot of work, not that I actually did much more than supervise as Baby BAM is due in just over two weeks!

I am ENORMOUS! I’ve been very lucky, with just the usual nausea, heartburn and tiredness to content with, but now I’ve reached that stage where I’m just too damn big to do much. There’s not long to go now though, and both me and the Mister can’t wait to meet our little one!

I haven’t finished many projects lately, but there is one that I’ve resisted blogging about since June! It was a present for my little sister’s birthday, so I had to hold off until I had a chance to give it to her (and I didn’t want to leave it to the Post Office to lose). Continue reading

Finished baby blanket and Magic Troll Vest

stripey knitted baby blanketI’ve taken so long to post this that another blogging milestone has snuck up on me! My two year anniversary as a blogger! When I started out I knew there would be times that I wasn’t posting as often as I’d like, but I honestly never considered that the reason would be that I’m too tired and pregnant! I am sleeping A LOT at the moment, and the combination of the hot weather and my blimp-like figure means I’m not getting out of the flat much. And as if preparing for the baby’s arrival wasn’t enough to keep me busy, we will be moving house in a few weeks too!

So, lots of big changes coming up, but all good ones! In the meantime the flat looks like a bomb hit it, and I spend too much time talking to the bump and not enough actually packing. Continue reading
