At the weekend the youngest of our three cats, Meredith, was hit by a car and died. She would have been three at the end of the year. She was a happy, mischievous, fearless little cat who poked her little pink nose into every project I’ve worked on since the day we brought her home. Continue reading
It’s been a bit of a funny week in the BAM household. It’s as if spring’s early arrival has set a clock ticking in my head, warning me that time is running out to finish all the things I thought I’d get done over the miserable colder months. I know it’s daft, but it’s been difficult to shake that nagging feeling that I should be getting more things done, things that have absolutely nothing to do with the weather! I’m my own worst enemy most of the time, so to escape that ticking sense of doom, and cheer myself up in the process, I made this:
It’s not quite the shelf edging I had planned, but when the urge to crochet pretty little flowers pops into my addled brain, it seems kinder not to resist. Besides, the results have cheered me up! They also inspired me to dig out a terracotta pot that I picked up at a charity shop last year. I have three of these little pots and I’d planned to make a crochet garland of flowers to go around their necks. One down, two to go!
Inspired by all the people wandering around Hastings dressed up for Pirates Day yesterday, I decided to make a pirate themed catnip toy for my cats. I just freehanded it using string from Poundland, but I was quite pleased with the way it turned out. Maybe I should write down instructions on how to make it whilst it’s still fresh in my mind. I’ve never really written patterns before, just a few notes so that I can repeat what I did the first time.
Anyway Capt’n Niptopus was a big hit with my three cats, but I think that had more to do with the XXX strength organic Canadian catnip I stuffed it with than my improvised hook skills! It must be good stuff because the cats never usually jump up onto the kitchen counter but they’ve been all over the spot where I filled the toy and spilled a little catnip!
